  Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H14O2, is a colorless transparent liquid. It is soluble in water, acetone, benzene, diethyl ether, methanol, carbon tetrachloride, and other organic solvents, as well as mineral oil. Primarily used as a high-boiling solvent for paints-particularly nitro spray paint, quick-drying paint, varnish, enamel, and paint remover-it also serves as an inactive diluent for adhesives, metal cleaner, paint stripper, fiber wetting agent, pesticide dispersant, pharmaceutical extractant, and resin plasticizer.
