Acetone, also known as dimethyl ketone, is an organic compound and the simplest saturated ketone. It is a colorless flammable liquid with a minty smell at normal temperature and pressure. It is readily soluble in water and organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, ether, chloroform and pyridine. Flammable and volatile, with relatively active chemical properties. In industry, it is mainly used as a solvent in sectors such as explosives, plastics, rubber, fibers, leather tanning, oils, and spray painting. It can also serve as an important raw material for the synthesis of substances like enone, acetic anhydride, iodoform, polyisoprene rubber, methyl methacrylate, chloroform, and epoxy resin.
