Dimethyl phthalate,an organic matter with molecular formula C10H10O4 and molecular weight 194.19, is colorless transparent yellowish oily liquid with slightly aromatic flavor. It is missolvable with ethanol, ether and other common organic solvents, but insoluble in water and petroleum ether.

APPLICATION:
  It is used as a stationary liquid for gas chromatography. This product is a plasticizer with strong solubility for various resins, and it can be dissolved in many cellulose resins, rubbers and vinyl resins. It has good film-forming property, adhesiveness and water resistance. It is often used in combination with diethyl phthalate in the production of cellulose acetate films, varnishes, transparent paper and molding powder, etc. A small amount is used in the production of nitrocellulose. It can also be used as a plasticizer for nitrile rubber. This product can also be used as a solvent for mosquito repellent oil (crude oil), polyvinyl fluoride coatings, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and DDT.
