  1,2-Propylene glycol (PG), also known as mono-propylene alcohol and 1,2-dihydroxypropane, is a small-molecule organic compound with the chemical formula C3H8O2. Under normal conditions, it is a colorless, odorless, low-toxicity, viscous, hygroscopic liquid with good stability and hygroscopicity. Chemically, propylene glycol is a type of diol and is miscible with water, ethanol, and many organic solvents. The basic characteristic of the molecular structure of 1,2-propylene glycol is the presence of an asymmetric chiral carbon atom, which can reduce the symmetry of the copolyester macromolecule, disrupt the regularity of the structure, and play a role in lowering the melting transition temperature and crystallization ability of the copolyester. Propylene glycol has two isomers. If not otherwise specified, propylene glycol generally refers to 1,2-propylene glycol.
