Cyclohexanone, an organic compound, is a saturated cyclic ketone containing a carbonyl carbon atom within a six membered ring. A colorless transparent liquid with a earthy odor, and containing trace amounts of phenols, it has a mint flavor. Impurities are light yellow in color and develop impurities over time, appearing in a water white to grayish yellow color with a strong pungent odor. Mixing with air has the same explosive polarity as open chain saturated ketones. There is insufficient evidence of carcinogenicity of cyclohexanone, which is mainly used as an organic synthesis raw material and solvent in industry. Application
Cyclohexanone is an important chemical raw material and a major intermediate in the production of nylon, caprolactam, and adipic acid.
It is also an important industrial solvent, especially for paints containing nitrocellulose, vinyl chloride polymers and their copolymers, or methacrylate polymer paints.
An excellent solvent for organophosphorus insecticides and many similar pesticides, used as a solvent for dyes, as a viscous solvent for piston type aviation lubricants, and as a solvent for fats, waxes, and rubbers.
It is also used as a homogenizer for dyeing and fading silk, a degreaser for polishing metals, a coloring and painting agent for wood, and can be used for cyclohexanone film removal, stain removal, and spot removal.
Cyclohexanone and cyanoacetic acid are condensed to obtain cyclohexylidene cyanoacetic acid, which is then eliminated and decarboxylated to obtain cyclohexene acetonitrile.
Finally, cyclohexene ethylamine is obtained through hydrogenation [3399-73-3], which is an intermediate in drugs such as ketamine and temaran.
Used as a high boiling solvent for nail polish and other cosmetics. Usually mixed with low boiling point solvents and medium boiling point solvents to obtain suitable volatilization rate and viscosity.
