Isobutanol is an organic synthetic raw material, used in the manufacture of petroleum additives, antioxidant 2,
6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol, isobutyl acetate (coating solvent), plasticizer, synthetic rubber, artificial musk, fruit essential oil
and synthetic drugs, can also be used to purify strontium, barium, lithium and other salt chemicals and used as advanced solvents.
It is a permitted edible spice stipulated in GB 2760-2014.

Applications

The uses of isobutanol and n-butanol are similar. They are often used interchangeably. The main applications are as varnishes and precursors to esters, which are useful solvents, e.g. isobutyl acetate. Isobutyl esters of phthalic, adipic, and related dicarboxylic acids are common plasticizers. Isobutanol is also a component of some biofuels.
