2-Ethylhexanoic Alcohol is poorly soluble in water but soluble in most organic solvents. 2-EH is found in natural plant fragrances, and the odor has been reported as "heavy, earthy, and slightly floral" for the R enantiomer and "a light, sweet floral fragrance" for the S enantiomer.
2-ethylhexanol appears as a liquid with an aromatic odor.  It is Insoluble in water and less dense than water. Contact may irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. It is an organic compound, the formula C8H18O, used in the production of plasticizer, defoamer, dispersant, separator and petroleum filler, also used in printing and dyeing, paint, film, etc.

Application

2-Ethylhexanol is an important chemical raw material. 2-Ethylhexanol is an eight-carbon branched chain oxo alcohol with a high boiling point and a slow evaporation rate. It is a versatile solvent with excellent reactivity as a chemical intermediate. Used as a chain terminator and plasticizer intermediate for the synthesis of polycondensates.
2-Ethylhexanol has low volatility and can enhance the fluidity and gloss of baking varnishes. Also used as a dispersant for colorants. In addition to the production of plasticizers, it is also used in the production of octyl acrylate or as a surfactant, etc., mainly used in the production of: dioctyl phthalate (DOP), dioctyl oxalate (DOA), trimellitic acid acrylic acid Trioctyl ester (TOTM) ), other plasticizers, octyl acrylate, surfactants, bone oil additives, mining, diesel fuel additives, solvents and compounds, rust inhibitor esters, other chemicals.
2-Ethylhexanol itself is a useful solvent, defoamer, dispersant, lubricant, and its series products are mainly plasticizers such as dioctyl phthalate and octyl acrylate. Dioctyl phthalate produced from 2-ethylhexanol is the main plasticizer of polyvinyl chloride, and its usage in polyvinyl chloride accounts for about 95% of its total usage.
